Interspinous Distraction is a minimally invasive procedure used to relieve symptoms of lumbar spinal stenosis. This procedure involves placing a small implant to reduce the pain caused by spinal stenosis.
The implant is placed between one or more of the bony protrusions of the spine, known as “spinous processes,” allowing patients to maintain range of motion without hyperextending the spine, which is often the cause of pain and sciatica related to lumbar spinal stenosis. The implant does not require plates or screws and can remain safely in place long-term.
This procedure involves a small incision of about 3-4 cm and is performed on an outpatient basis. Our minimally invasive approach avoids unnecessary muscle dissection and damage to surrounding areas, using fluoroscopic guidance to ensure accuracy. With this approach, patients can return to their normal activities much faster than with traditional spine surgery.
